Sophomore Year
Winter 1964-65
However, while most of the sophomores were partying it up in Dillon or in their rooms during weekends, a few classmates were helping to bring the football team its first undefeated season in 13 years. Walt Kozumbo, Blair Lee, Larry Stupski, Doug James and Lynn Brewbaker were all seeing action every Saturday in Palmer Stadium. When the squad beat both Yale and Harvard and the time came for a Big Three victory bonfire, the entire class under the direction of class president Terry Whipple and cheerleaders Phil Handy, John Delaney and Rick Karch took charge of gathering the wood and building the pile. Dry weather conditions postponed the celebration for a week, and when it was finally lit, the blaze celebrated not just a Big Three title but a perfect season as well.
After the football season and Thanksgiving the thought that began to plague everyones mind was Bicker. Toward the end of the fall, Whipple announced the selection of the Bicker committee, which included class vice president Jack Seaquist, class secretary-treasurer Larry Lucchino and Mike Bewley, Tony Bradford, Jerry Brashear, Bucky Clarkson, Jim Edmundson, Marty Eichelberger, Dick Fiss, Rick Karch, Bill Richardson and Dubby Wynne. The difficult choice of selecting Bickermates then began, and finally the night of architectural tour brought home to the entire class the realization that the process was underway. In spite of untold fear and trepidation the week passed quite smoothly for all, and by sign-in night everyone had received a bid. The most serious mishap of the week occurred Saturday night when John Bender, Cliff Eames and Dan Rubinfeld were arrested in the middle of Prospect Street and charged with underage possession of alcoholic beverages.
