West Coast Edition – Retirement

Chick Walter has retired from the GAO after a 34-year federal career spanning defense technology programs, Medicare and Medicaid initiatives, and pension tax law. He began in the Air Force, training with Jake Williams and Charlie Byers ’68.

Bob Ehret is enjoying retirement from corporate America. He is coaching his grandson’s midget football team and experienced a three-week motorcycle trip to the UK/Europe this summer, with only one rainy day out of 20. Bob joined his former football teammates at the induction of Cosmo Iacavazzi ’65 into the College Football Hall of Fame in NYC in December.

Barbara and John Treat are living at Twin Meadows Ranch in Telluride, Colo. They both retired from their “corporate” jobs and have started six companies in various fields, ranging from land development to internet security. Their 4-year-old twins are in school and have already seen their first snow.

After 28 years at a food and drug boutique, on Oct. 1, Peter Safir did not retire but rather joined the law firm of Covington & Burling to be cohead of its food and drug practice group and a director of its life science practice. Although a dramatic change from 14 lawyers to 550 (when many classmates are retiring), the change is exhilarating and the intellectual challenge is great. Spouse Ellen has also left her employer of 16 years and started New Century Advisors, an investment management company, managing fixed income for large institutions. She currently has $150 million under management and is loving every minute of being on her own. Son Jesse ’06 is having a blast, juggling JV wrestling and organic chemistry.

’67 Freshman Handbook regulation (constitutional scholars take note): “Presence of a student at the scene of a disturbance, even as a spectator, may render him liable for disciplinary action.” Over to you, WOWS.
