Bill Beale shot his career round playing golf with your humble editor and rewarded me with news of his roomies: 75% of the Little Rascals (Editors note: 17th entry of Little, of course) Terry Tornek, now of Southern California, unable to attend met to celebrate Peter Doves 59th by cracking crustaceans at Obryckis Crab House in Baltimore in August. Stu Israelson was in town from Florida. Peter and wife, Barbara, came over from the DC suburbs. I enjoyed home field advantage, which was a good thing because as you know crabs must be accompanied by beer, and I had just returned from an overnight sailboat race, on two hours of sleep. Naturally, this statement begs the question: Why am I still pulling all-nighters even when there isnt a paper due? Anyway, the crabs were delicious and all got home safely (except for the crabs). All Rascals are well. Both Peter and Terry are grandfathers. When not improving his golf game, Bill cheerfully defends the godless here in town. He reminds us all of that age-old adage: Its never too late to have a happy childhood!
Signe and Jan Twardowski have weighed in, but not from aboard Raven: Well, after receiving the fifth email asking if Raven had sunk, we felt we should report in! Raven is still in Auckland, but Signe and I flew back to the US in June for a joyous occasion, the birth of our first grandchild, Ava. Plus we had a reunion with a bunch of good cruising friends youve heard about over the last three years. Yes, we will go back to New Zealand and more South Pacific cruising, but not till weve had a few months to be enthusiastic grandparents. Who knows . . . maybe Fiji next year? Remember the cruiser motto: We have no plans and were sticking to them. Warm regards to all.
