John Kerr spent a busy summer with his Navy job hosting the Japanese fleet visit to Anchorage, participating in the opening of the new U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo on the 4th of July, visiting fleet hospital in Zagreb in Croatia, and working at European HQ in Stuttgart and Naples. That and flying for Delta to Hong Kong, Frankfurt and Bombay meant lots of travel but no vacation time. (Right, John.)
D. J. Paul was promoted to colonel in the air force reserve, working for the asst. secretary of the air force for special projects. He is still president of Milpitas Christian Schools, a rapidly growing ministry in San Jose.
Steve Kerr was on sabbatical from the Univ. of Washington this past year and spent two and a half months in Russia working with educators to reform the school system. In May, Steves wife, Donna, and eight-year-old daughter, Allie, joined him in Russia, where Allie attended a Russian school. We saw a country deeply struggling with its past and making some tentative steps toward a better future.
Dean Wanderer retired from the navy this year and is back at school to get a second LL.M. (environmental law). Hes still working for the U.S. Dept. of Defense, which he reports seems to be heavily influenced by PU. graduates.
Peter Turchi writes that he has just returned from New Mexico, where he spent his summers for the last five years working for the air force. Judy joined me for hiking and horseback riding in Taos and Los Alamos. We also climbed Sandia Crest near Albuquerque. Our girls are both at Ohio State, where I still teach (aeronautical engineering). Janita (PU. 90) is a Ph.D. student in neuroscience, while Rebecca should be graduating this year in music performance (flute).
