Other Years

WE START a new academic year with a retread class secretary. Thanks to Peter Safir for his great work in prior years. Send me news and photos at the above address. If you don’t, I’ll make it up. I just returned from a weekend in Princeton for the wedding of Nick Weber ’94, son of Collin Weber, to Robyn Algeria ’94. Collin and wife Dominique are happily ensconced in Atlanta, where the good doctor teaches, researches, and practices at Emory Medical School.

Between events, I took the opportunity to view the last construction phase of the new Princeton football stadium. As I marveled at the beautiful place, who should appear but Karl Pettit, who is actively involved in the development of a number of projects for various universities. Don’t miss attending a football game in the new stadium this fall. No trip to Princeton would be complete without a stop at the Jadwin office of Athletic Director Gary Walters, who seems to be there, or at one of Princeton’s athletic venues, at any given time of night or day. Drop by, and he’ll surprise you with his detailed knowledge of the stadium design and construction. The Tiger athletic teams once again had the best overall Ivy record, due in no small part to Gary’s leadership. Of course, I also took the opportunity to spend some time in Nassau Hall with honorary classmate Dick Spies, university v.p. for finance, with whom I have worked closely on the effort to renovate and expand the 85-year-old Class of 1887 Boathouse, which will soon become a part of a world-class rowing center named in memory of Bernard Shea ’16.

Thirty-five years ago this week we were wondering what happened to all the free beer that had been omnipresent during open-house week and why that great refrigerator we bought for $25 and lugged home wasn’t working all that well.
