ROBERT B. GREENWOOD JR. died of cancer on Sept. 6, 1967, in Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, after an illness of several months. Bob was born on Jan. 1, 1946, in Wichita Falls, Texas, and it is as a Texan that his classmates will always remember him.
Raised in a Navy family, Bob attended school and lived in many parts of the world; he came to Princeton from the Punahou School in Hawaii. He studied at Princeton for only a year and then transferred to the University of Texas. At the end of his junior year there he qualified for law school a year early and was studying for both his bachelor’s and law degree when he was stricken.
Those who knew Bob during his freshman year will always remember him for the tremendous personal strength that characterized all his endeavors. He knew what he wanted and always kept his own abilities and goals in focus. His decision to transfer, reached not because he was dissatisfied with Princeton but because the University of Texas offered an accelerated, ambitious route to a law degree, reflected his determination and clear-thinking.
Bob had a tremendous desire to excel and did so often. An extrovert and naturally talented performer, he earned a position with the Triangle Club and was one of the few first-year men to tour with the club around the country. He was also blessed with a fine mind and academic success came easily to him. Among his friends a wry sense of humor and a deceptive wit made him a favorite. Those who knew him well were also always impressed by his thoughtfulness and consideration for others.
The class shares with his family and friends their deep feeling of loss, and to his parents, Captain and Mrs. Robert B. Greenwood, we extend our most heartfelt sympathy.
