September 2006
Dear Classmate,
Only nine months until our 40th reunion which will be held May 31 June 3, 2007. Its not too early to begin making plans to attend! Your class officers are already hard at work organizing a great program of activities. Our top priority is to have a record number of classmates return, but more on that later.
The class sponsored its usual set of get-togethers over the past year. Ted and Laura Todd hosted a reception at their home in November following the Yale football game. Dick and Dawn Fiss planned a dinner on campus in February over Alumni Day weekend for classmates at which all undergraduate children of classmates were invited as well. At our 39th reunion in June, Frank and Carrie Strasburger hosted a post P-Rade reception for classmates. (What are we going to do when Frank and Carrie move to Maine next year?) And, in April past Class President Allen Adler and his wife Frances graciously hosted a cocktail party and dinner at their New York City home for all classmates in the area. On behalf of the entire class, our sincere thanks to the hosts of all these lovely events.
Congratulations also to Allen and Frances Adler on the admission of their son Alexander to the Class of 2010. Alexander was the only offspring of our classmates admitted this year and we now have a total of 13 classmates children as undergraduates. Still waiting for that first grandchild.
Class Treasurer Peter Holzer reports that the class continues to run a balanced budget and that we are maintaining a modest cash surplus in our bank account. You will be pleased to know that our independent accountants confirm that your class officers have not received back-dated stock options in the past and once again refused to accept any stock options this year. Class dues remain the same at $67 again this year. Peters first dues letter is enclosed, please respond promptly. Also, if possible, include an additional contribution to support our ongoing class initiative to help fund summer undergraduate internships at a variety of non-profit organizations around the country.
Our class continues to be a strong supporter of Annual Giving thanks to AG Class Agent Bob Popkin and his team of classmate volunteers around the country. The Class of 67 contributed $329,739 to last years AG campaign, once again one of the top class totals for all non-major reunion year classes with close to 2/3 of all classmates contributing. Plans are well under way for the 40th AG campaign and we are setting ambitious dollar and participation goals. The ubiquitous John Claster has agreed to be our Special Gifts Committee Chairman and he has recruited a strong team of classmates to join him on this committee. You will be hearing more from Bob and John in the upcoming months about our 40th AG campaign. I hope you will help make this years campaign a real success.
Co-class secretaries Dick Prentke and Lanny Springs continue to do a great job on the Class Notes section of The Alumni Weekly. Keep the news and pictures coming as we build toward our 40th. Webmaster Galen Aoki is updating the class website at www.princeton67.com. Visit the site for information about class activities, especially information leading up to our 40th reunion.
By now, you should have received the first save-the-date communique from co-reunion chairmen Tom Amato and Bob Mayer about our 40th. Once again, the dates are May 31 June 3, 2007. As you recall, we sent out a letter and survey to classmates one year ago to collect attitudes and suggestions about reunions to help us plan a reunion that meets the expectations of classmates. Your feedback has been extremely helpful. Our goal is to bring back a record 300 classmates to our 40th and to have the reunion strengthen and reestablish relationships among classmates. I urge all classmates to pick up the phone and call former roommates, clubmates, and/or teammates to urge them to attend the 40th, particularly those classmates who have returned infrequently in the past. You will be receiving a full package of information on the 40th along with reservation forms from Tom and Bob later this fall. Reunion volunteers are always needed. Please email Tom or Bob to volunteer or offer ideas to help make the 40th more successful.
Leading up to our 40th reunion, we organized regional events this summer, one in Boston at a Red Sox game (courtesy of Larry Lucchino) and another in San Francisco at a Giants game (courtesy of Larry Stupski). Thanks to you both for hosting these events. We will have the usual class reception following this falls Harvard football game on Saturday, October 21st and an Alumni Day dinner on campus on February 24, 2007. Details will be forthcoming.
Please contact me or any of your other class officers with feedback or ideas about possible class activities. I look forward to seeing a record turnout of classmates at our 40th.
Best Wishes,
Jack Laporte
