Summer Service Internships
The Class identifies summer internships for current undergraduates and works with Princetons Student Volunteers Council to fill them. Peter Holzer has been instrumental in shepherding this project from vision to reality. In addition to generating opportunities in social service organizations, the Class assists in financing stipends for the interns and also acts as mentors. Through this program, you and your classmates can help your own communities while providing valuable support to committed undergraduates.
Think about it. As you might expect, Peter Holzer will be most appreciative if you contact him with suggestions or offers of help.
Old Books for Young Kids
This was the Class Project for our 35th Reunion
Who can forget Richard Scarry, Shel Silverstein, Dr. Seuss, the Berenstain Bears, Freddy the Pig, Goodnight Moon, and the dozens of other books we read and reread to our kids for years? In this era of TV and other visual media, wouldnt it be great to do something to encourage a group of less advantaged kids to develop their reading skills and to learn to enjoy reading?
Our partner in the effort was a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C. called Turning the Page. TTP collects and distributes books to public school libraries and low-income families as part of a broader program to encourage improved opportunities for learning. Jim Edmondsons daughter-in-law, Kelly Hartoin Edmondson, a teacher in D.C., is a board member and enthusiastic supporter of TTP.
