Dear ’67 Classmate

May 2005

Where are you?

Seems like a pretty easy question to answer, but I don’t just mean geographically. In a little less than 2 ½ years, it will be 40 years since we graduated from Princeton. We will be in our early 60’s. Some have called this the third phase of life, filled with new opportunities and challenges.

As members of the class of ’67, you have accomplished many things. There have been brilliant careers in almost every field of endeavor you can think of. Loving families raised and educated. Personal battles won and lost, but never without lessons learned. There have been many contributions by members of the class to society at large. Classmates spread around the world, ambassadors for excellence, courage, and wisdom.

And you have been generous in your support of Princeton. Classmates have volunteered untold hours to mentor undergraduates, and to teach today’s students. Nearly 67% of your classmates gave to the most recent annual giving campaign.

But many of us in ’67 think this is not enough. And we are not talking about money.

We want a record number of classmates to reconnect with one another, in person. We intend to reach out personally to every classmate to encourage as many of you as possible to gather together in Princeton in May 2007 for our 40th reunion.

To accomplish this, we are launching the Tiger Tracker program whereby a broad group of classmates have generously volunteered their time to conduct a grassroots effort to contact and communicate with every member of the class we are able to locate.

That’s right, every member of the class. Frankly, we know statistically that many classmates have stayed close to the university over the years and many others have not. Many ’67ers still count classmates as some of their closest friends today while others have lost touch with most classmates.

We want to engage everyone, not just the “hardcore”. We don’t care whether you have been back to Princeton 100 times since graduation or never. Our goal is to get 300 classmates back together at our 40th.

To kick off Tiger Tracker, which Tom Amato and Bob Mayer have volunteered to head up, we’re enclosing a survey for you to fill out to get a better understanding of classmates’ opinions about reunions. We want to know what would make a return to Princeton meaningful, fun, and memorable for you.

That’s why we are starting now, more than two years ahead of the 40th. We want to collect your thoughts and ideas and act on your wishes.

A Tiger Tracker classmate will be contacting you directly in the next several months. When a Tiger Tracker calls, don’t growl. Give him your thoughts. Reflect back on shared experiences as undergraduates 40 years ago. Think about all that has happened to us since graduation.

No matter where your life and career have taken you, I’m sure you long ago realized the power of networking in uncovering opportunities and inspiring new ideas. That’s the thinking behind Tiger Tracker.

We know where we want you to be in May of 2007. Let’s work together to make coming back to Princeton really special.

We want to hear from you. Please respond either by mailing back the completed hard copy of the survey to Tom Amato at the address below or respond online through the class website, princeton67.com, where the survey is also posted. Just download the survey, fill it out, and send it back to Tom at the email address below
